Our annual Holiday Market on November 18 at Trafalgar Castle School was another enormous success! Hundreds from the Whitby community and Durham Region passed through the castle doors to shop local and kick off the festive season.
“Community is at the heart of Trafalgar Castle School and every year we’re proud to host our Holiday Market which supports local businesses, raises funds for local charities and brings our community together to celebrate this joyous season.” says our Head of School, Melissa Knight-Johnson, “This year, we were thrilled to see record numbers come through our castle doors. Our local businesses, students and staff truly came together under one roof to make this year’s Holiday Market one of our best yet!”
The Holiday Market featured more than 25 local vendors selling a wide array of items from jewelry, handcrafted wearables and accessories to candles, specialty gifts, food and kitchen must-haves, delicious treats and more.
Among the vendors, teachers and staff from Trafalgar Castle School also created fused-glass ornaments and jewelry pieces for purchase and Grade 9, 11 and 12 Visual Arts students crafted adorable holiday gnomes for purchase as well. Proceeds from the sale of these ornaments, jewelry pieces and gnomes will be donated to student-chosen charities including the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation and the Hospital for Sick Children.
In addition to shopping opportunities, the Holiday Market featured a tea room where Trafalgar Castle School students served up scrumptious sandwiches, delectable pastries and tea against a cozy fireplace backdrop and student vocalists crooning holiday tunes. Trafalgar Castle School also held a silent auction organized by its Parents’ Guild with exquisite items provided by members of the Whitby business community.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible vendors, staff and students for their hard work in putting together such a fantastic event and to our Visual Arts classes and student vocalists for lending their talents. Also, a huge thank you to our amazing community for supporting Trafalgar Castle School and celebrating the start of the holiday season with us!
