LEARNING SUPPORT

Trafalgar Castle School understands that our students may have various learning needs and we believe that all learners should have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery in personalized ways.

We’ve designed a variety of programs that meet our students’ needs and ensure that they are supported and equipped to succeed as they progress through grades.

Dragon’s Den:

Dragon’s Den is a space for students in Grades 7-12 where they can get additional academic support. Staffed by one of our dedicated math teachers and included in tuition, Dragon’s Den is available for one hour after school four days a week.

Advisor Program:

At Trafalgar, we put our students at the forefront and focus on creating programming that supports relationship-building and connections. Whether through prescribed SEL Programming, like our partnership with Captain & Poets, or our in-house-designed lesson, our Advisor Program is an opportunity to learn and gather as a community. All students in Grades 9 to 12 are placed in an Advisor Group with one faculty advisor. Each week, there is dedicated time for students to see their advisor complete structured activities to help support them in social, emotional and academic well-being. Advisor time is built into every student’s schedule to allow students to build a relationship with their advisor.

High Performing Athletes and Artists Program:

HPAA is designed to offer greater support and increased flexibility for students in Grades 9-12 who are pursuing athletics or the arts outside the school at an elite level. The students who meet the program’s criteria are made known to the Senior School teaching staff, who then coordinate with each other to offer extra support when needed (students in Grades 4 to 8 are supported individually by their homeroom teacher).

Tutorial:

Our Tutorial program is an opportunity for students in Grades 7-12 to meet with various subject teachers to review concepts, practice questions, or participate in remediation activities.

Exam Accommodations

Students with Learning Plans or special provisions receive specific accommodations that are unique to the learner. This might include additional time, extended breaks, or the use of assistive technology. In addition to this, our Learning Hub is a quiet place where you can write tests and exams or complete assignments with the additional support of a supervising teacher.

IT Desk Services & Support:

The I.T. department provides school-level technology support for students and staff, ensuring all devices are in working order and all software for school-owned devices is vetted. I.T. offers general support for classroom computing devices, multimedia projectors, MacBooks, iPads, Apple TVs, document cameras, printers, etc., by troubleshooting issues and helping users with instructions. They also work periodically in the classroom, supporting device setup and exam support, as well as full school assemblies.

Take Time

Every Thursday, we dedicate one “Take Time” hour for students to participate in a variety of activities and clubs with all grades. From ASL Club and Vex Robotics to archery and more, each week, our students have the opportunity to experiment with different activities.
